Ettington Park Hotel Wedding Photographer with Gill and Alastair on their wedding day.
Well I’m back to give a little update on Gill and Alastair’s Ettington Park Hotel wedding that we shot a few weeks ago in Stratford-upon-Avon. I did say in the sneaky peek post that I’d give more of a story upon how we came to shoot Gill and Alastair’s wedding, as it’s not how I would normally be approached!
Some of you lucky people who know me may know that this isn’t my full time gig, I do it because I want to, because I love the feedback I get from being a wedding photographer and providing a great story for the bride and groom to remember Plus I always feel like an extended member of the family…albeit briefly! My full time gig used to be as a graphic designer for Ford Motor Company. I was approached a number of years ago by the public affairs team within Ford to undertake a little design project for Ford that would ultimately end up in the programme of events for a charity Ball run by The BEN Automotive Charity, a charity solely for the Automotive industry. Since then, every year I have had the delightful pleasure of attending this charity ball, known as the BEN Ball which takes place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London every December – A fabulous way to start the Christmas festivities and also make a difference.
Two years ago, whilst attending the BEN Ball, Ferrari presented a short film where they provided a day at Silverstone racing circuit for the nations most deserving 50 disabled, disadvantaged and seriously ill children,. With the help of the British Drivers Club and various Ferrari dealerships around the country these children were given a day that they would never forget, a day of true excitement, exhilaration plus the chance to get close to some remarkable racing drivers. Being driven around the circuit at break neck speed by a professional racing driver is something that most children can only dream of…! The intention was to give these children a break from their daily battle and provide a fantastic release from their worries.
The short film brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye and continues to do so whenever I tell people about it, don’t get me wrong I don’t blubber that easily, but the reaction from the children was intense and so heartfelt that it tugged at my emotions! I decided I should do something too. Can I make a difference to the lives of someone far less fortunate than myself? I have no idea, but I can try! What is just time to me can be much more for someone else. So I decided for the 2011 BEN Ball I would give BEN a silent auction prize of a days wedding photography…enter Gill and Alastair, who were attending their very first BEN Ball. I never had the chance to meet them that evening but after talking to Gill on her wedding day I understand there was a little battle between them and a couple on the table next to them. They were planning on buying it for their son…who wasn’t even engaged! Luckily for me Gill and Alastair won the battle and between us we have hopefully helped made that difference.
I know I will continue to help people less fortunate than me, as many of you do on a day-to-day basis. I do hope this has some kind of butterfly effect, maybe someone else will also feel inspired to put their hands out to help someone in need, we can only hope.
So can I please thank Gill and Alastair for taking a slightly different approach on choosing their wedding photographer and also to Ferrari for giving me the inspiration to do something for BEN.
Also a special thanks to Howard Angus from Vyou Wedding Photography who kindly gave up his day to second shoot for me – you’re a star!
As always, those are my ramblings (a slightly deeper ramble than I usually deliver!), these are their wedding photos…enjoy and before you go back to Google or Facebook, remember to leave some lovely comments for Gill and Alastair…the new Mr. and Mrs Headings.
